Zelia Raye and the Development of Modern Theatre Dance
"A teacher should be able to produce a dancer; a dancer an entertainment."
"Personality, style, elevation, eyes, arms, smile, deportment: these are what bring a girl out of the chorus, out of team work and make her one by herself, a finished artist."
Zelia Raye was the founder and creator of the ISTD's Modern Theatre Faculty.
She inspired a whole generation of choreographers and teachers and they in turn inspired those who dominate the profession at the beginning of the new century.
This is her story.
